I can't express how thankful I am to The Global Game Jam team and Tim Cullings for this opportunity, my family for always supporting my dreams, and the game development community for being the best! This event has a dear place in my heart, and all the memories, friendships, and learnings I made will always be there for me.įinally, as I mentioned my mission is to share this passion with others so stay tuned to my website as I'll be writing a blog on EVERY single talk I attended, sharing my biggest takeaways with everyone everywhere in a fun and digestible way! Shared outfits with one of the presenters (it was so awesome 🤣 ! shoutout to Chris Rios).Met Mark Brown from Game Maker's Toolkit (one of my heroes!).18 members of the Game Dev Club at SJSU were sponsored by the club to attend the event (A record! Shoutout to Yunseo (Claire) Han for making this possible).Being at GDC with those close to me made me remember why this all matters, spreading smiles.

To think that I'm where I am now, being part of such a passionate community makes me extremely grateful, and I've made it my mission to share this passion with as many others as I can. It was a turning point in my life, and a true love for games was born. Unlike movies or video, the keys I pressed made the ship move around and shoot aliens, I had never seen anything like it before! And my eyes lit up with excitement. I sat on my dad's lap, and he started up a Space Invaders emulator on our home computer, and something incredible happened. I vividly remember playing my first video game at the age of six. I'm finally settled back in from GDC and Spring Break, and I have so many stories, learnings and friendships to share! It was incredibly fun and rewarding to work on it, and reminded me why I love game development so much! I was WIRED working on this project and almost pulled out an all-nighter ( worked til 4 am!). I also shared the finalized project with them so they can reverse engineer mechanics like platforming, animation, and a Nintendo 64-style camera filter and shader, which you can check out on the following GitHub repo! Then, I taught the club how to navigate Unity, and how to work with 3D models and we wrote a simple script to get Mario moving with the keyboard, and they loved it! I also did UV unwrapping and painted a texture for him. Kicked it off in blender by creating a #3Dmodel of #Mario, and giving him a rig, then I created a running, jumping, and idle animation. Today is #marioday and I'd love to share the workshop I just prepared for the Game Development Club at SJSU, Girls Who Code, and the CS Club, we recreated a classic, Super Mario 64!
